Amplifier - A device that takes a weak audio signal (like the one coming from a DAC) and boosts it so it has enough electrical power to physically move the cones in your speakers. In a HiFiBerry setup, you will need an amplifier if you are connecting passive speakers that do not have their own separate power plugs.
